Starz has ordered a new pilot Black Sails that is a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island. It has been announced that famous movie producer Michael Bay will be joined by filmmaker Neil Marshall to helm the pilot for for Starz. Black Sails has started pre-production down in the Gulf coast and also in South Africa, the show is being eyed as a replacement for Spartacus, once the third and final season airs. English actress Hannah New is set to co-star opposite Toby Stephens for the eight episode series and the casting directors are now on a national search for other stand in and extra roles in the pilot. This is a great opportunity for any actor that is trying to break into the industry by working with two of the biggest producers that Hollywood has ever seen.
Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver. Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.
Black Sails stands as the latest in Starz’s love affair with the sword-and-sandals genre, joining the channel’s Spartacus franchise and the casting directors are now casting for numerous roles for the pilot. They are looking for male and female union and non union actors to audition for several extra and stand-in roles.
