Al Pacino is back on the big screen in Dan Fogelman’s Imagine, alongside Jeremy Renner – as the 40-year-old son with whom he tries to reconnect. Fogelman’s screenplay was initially sold to studio Warner Bros for $3m, and is expected to begin shooting in late April or early May 2013. Screenwriter Fogelman is also making his directing debut on Imagine, having worked his way up the Hollywood ladder via scripts for the animated films Cars, Bolt and Tangled. The film will also star Jilianne Moore. The casting direcotrs are now taking applications for several roles in Imagine. The film’s storyline sees Pacino’s character, inspired by Lennon’s letter, give up his debauched life as an arena-packing rock star with a girlfriend far too young for him. Instead, he sets out to rediscover the music he originally intended to make, along the way reconnecting with Renner and befriending Moore. He decides to straighten out, stop making a living off by “selling out” and playing old anthems, and rediscover. This will mark Pacino’s second rocker role in recent memory, as he’s also playing Phil Spector in David Mamet’s biopic, which is still waiting to see a release from HBO. But if big hair is required, Pacino can do it.
