Acting and modeling opportunities are everywhere; you just have to know where to look. Many potential models sit at home waiting to be “discovered.” But, this is simply not likely to happen. This is a common misconception that one day you will be walking down the street and some agent or casting director will see you and launch you into stardom. On this magic day the stars will align and you will be rubbing shoulders with Hollywood’s biggest stars. When in all reality you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning while being eaten by a shark. So what does it take to get to the top?
Hard work and lots of it…
But where does one begin?
Well first off, you should be studying your craft. No matter you age you should be taking some measure of class that leads you in the direction you want to go. There are plenty of places to do this. For example, you can enroll at your local community college, enroll in an acting school, or, given you are the appropriate age, you can join the drama club at your high school.
But most importantly you must be constantly working on your craft and there are plenty of opportunities abound beyond the stage and screen. The first thing that comes to mind is working in commercials, both print and film. Every advertisement you have ever laid you eyes on has had to hire actors or models to work in them. Also there are what is called industrial films. These are those dopey films that you sit through on your first day of work. You know the ones that explain the in and outs of your new workplace, how to lift heavy stuff, and deal with unlikely chemical spills. Most importantly these jobs tend to pay pretty well. Also there is what is called voiceover work. This type of work is far more abundant than you might think. This type of work includes everything from radio ads to video games.
Whatever you do it is essential that you continue to stay busy with things that are related to the business. Not only will this continue to build your resume but this will give you the opportunity to work on your craft. No one has ever been born to be the world’s greatest anything. True some have gifts that give them an edge of some others, but even they have worked tirelessly to perfect their craft. But, the timeless expression always rings true “practice makes perfect.” So get out there and make a name for yourself and begin your climb to the top!
